What are vitamin D3 K2 drops?

Vitamin D3, chemically cholecalciferol, is the form of vitamin D that the skin also makes itself under UVB light. Vitamin K2 is a group of compounds called menaquinones. MK7 stands for menaquinone-7, a form with a long side chain that occurs, for example, in natto.

In drops, both vitamins are dissolved in an oil – in our case MCT oil from coconut. That suits their nature, because vitamins D and K are fat-soluble. A drop can also be dosed without a capsule shell or tablet excipients. Our drops contain three ingredients: MCT oil, vitamin K2 MK7 and vitamin D3 from lanolin.

Vitamin D3 and K2 in one drop

One drop contains 4000 IU of vitamin D3 – that is 100 µg – and 200 µg of vitamin K2 as MK7. Vitamin D contributes to normal absorption/utilisation of calcium and phosphorus, to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, to the maintenance of normal muscle function and to the normal function of the immune system. Vitamin K contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and to normal blood clotting.

Why vitamin D3 K2 drops in MCT oil

Vitamins D and K dissolve in fat, not in water. As the carrier oil we use MCT oil from coconut, a neutral-tasting oil made of medium-chain fatty acids. This means the drops need just three ingredients: MCT oil, vitamin K2 MK7 and vitamin D3. Fillers or anti-caking agents, as tablets require, are not needed.

Where our vitamin D3 comes from

Our vitamin D3 is obtained from lanolin. Lanolin is the wool grease of sheep and is produced when the wool is cleaned. It is the most common source of vitamin D3 in food supplements. If you are vegan, you need an alternative made from lichen.

High dose, so just one drop

At 100 µg per drop, the daily amount is at the upper limit that EFSA considers safe for adults. One drop a day is therefore the right amount, and no other vitamin D supplements should be added. If you want to know your exact needs, have your blood vitamin D level measured.

How many drops of vitamin D3 K2 per day?

One drop a day, with a meal. You can put it straight into your mouth or onto a spoon. Do not take more than one drop a day.

Is 4000 IU of vitamin D3 too much?

4000 IU equals 100 µg of vitamin D. That is the tolerable upper intake level EFSA has set for adults – for your total intake from all sources. So don’t take any other high-dose vitamin D supplements alongside it. If you are unsure, have your vitamin D level checked by a doctor.

When is the best time to take vitamin D3 K2?

With a meal that contains some fat, for example at breakfast or lunch. Vitamins D and K are fat-soluble. The time of day matters less than taking it regularly.

Where does the vitamin D3 come from?

Can I take vitamin D3 K2 with blood thinners?

Vitamin K contributes to normal blood clotting. If you take anticoagulants of the vitamin K antagonist type, such as warfarin or phenprocoumon, talk to your doctor before taking these drops.
