Synthetic Multivitamins (The Biggest Scam of All Time?)

This blog post is based on the original Newsletter #133 from Heart and Soil.

Many industries make a fortune selling false promises:

Plant-based meat substitutes? Check ✅
Beauty industry with its toxic products? Check. ✅
Oat milk? Definitely check!

One industry that is rarely criticized, however, is the billion-dollar synthetic (petroleum-based) multivitamin industry.

You know it. They promise a "once-daily" pill or gummy that is supposed to cover all your nutrient needs.

The big problem is that millions of people are lulled into a false sense of security about their health.

"I don’t have to give my child eggs or milk because they get calcium and B vitamins from multivitamin gummies..."

"As long as I take my Burgerstein, I can have pasta and ice cream for dinner instead of meat or organs..."

Do you see the problem?

It is assumed that up to 99% of the biochemical components in our food have not yet been discovered. So it is naive to believe that we can cover all our nutrient needs with a synthetic multivitamin.

And we know that synthetic multivitamins do not work as promised, because although every third American regularly takes one, micronutrient deficiencies are still very common:

  • 92% have a choline deficiency
  • 88% have a vitamin E deficiency
  • 67% have a vitamin K deficiency
  • 50% have a magnesium deficiency
  • 43% have a vitamin A deficiency

Do we want to end up like the Americans?

There are very good arguments that nutrients from animal foods like meat, eggs, and liver are far superior to nutrients from synthetic supplements.

That makes perfect sense when you consider that we are also animals... and have always eaten animals.

Synthetic vitamins are made from chemical compounds produced in a lab (and still from petroleum!). They often contain very high amounts of nutrients to compensate for the body's poor absorption capacity of synthetic substances. Often, other forms of vitamins normally found in foods are missing, which can impair actual absorption and utilization in the body.

In contrast, animal nutrients reflect the nutrients already present in our bodies, meaning we can fully utilize them.

They come in the right form that our bodies have learned to utilize over millions of years, meaning they are highly absorbable and bioavailable. So, an extremely high concentration at once is not necessary. A normal amount, as found in natural foods, is sufficient.

...and they come with the necessary cofactors, enzymes, and synergistic nutrients for optimal utilization.

Let's take a closer look 👀

Here is a very popular "once-daily" multivitamin that promises essential nutrients, including vitamin D and iron, in a single daily capsule:

However, an analysis of the ingredients reveals several problems:

⚠️ The iron is present as ferrous fumarate , a non-heme iron from iron salts, which is not the form our body prefers. As mentioned, we are animals, which means the iron in our body corresponds to the iron in other animals (such as cows). Therefore, iron from steak or liver, a heme iron found in the protein complexes of hemoglobin and myoglobin, is more bioavailable and more easily absorbed.

⚠️ The vitamin A consists of beta-carotene, an inferior form of vitamin A. Not only does your body have to convert it from beta-carotene to vitamin A, but the conversion rate is also poor, ranging between 3% and 10%. Vitamin A from egg yolk or beef liver, on the other hand, comes in the form of retinol, which does not need to be converted at all!

⚠️ The magnesium is partly in the form of magnesium oxide, an inorganic form synthesized industrially from magnesium ore. In contrast, the organic form of magnesium in whole foods is bound to proteins to facilitate absorption.

⚠️ The vitamin B12 is not declared at all. It is probably present as cyanocobalamin, a non-bioavailable form of vitamin B12, which does not occur naturally...

We could go on listing and explaining why every nutrient in such products is inferior to its whole food equivalent, but we think you have probably understood the point by now.

And what about the other ingredients (additives)?

These fillers, binders, stabilizers, solvents, and coating agents are nothing but an attack on our gut. They have no place in human nutrition and are a clear reminder of the enormous differences between these multivitamin products and real whole foods.

At Raw Animal, we don’t sell supplements. We sell the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, freeze-dried in capsules. Our products are made on farms, not in chemical labs. It’s real nutrition from real foods, without additives.

Do you see the difference?

We have made it our mission to put a stop to the massive multivitamin industry and open people’s eyes to this huge problem.

Because too many people have been deceived into believing that a "once-daily" pill is an adequate substitute for the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet.

If we can convince more people to trade their synthetic multivitamin for a bottle of Beef Organs, we can make a big difference for people’s health.

Because beef organs are what a multivitamin SHOULD BE. An incredible source of bioavailable nutrients, as natural as possible – in the convenience of capsules.

But we need your help to spread the message!

So if you know someone in your life who would benefit from a real multivitamin (that actually works), please forward this blog post to them.

Best regards

Your Raw Animal Team
